How you can help:
La Maison des Collines (MDC) has a six-bed capacity and each person has a comfortable private room. Several service areas are available to patients and their loved ones: a living room, shared kitchen, library/reference centre (computer), non-sectarian chapel, outdoor terrace, etc.
Accommodation at the MDC is free for the duration of each patient’s stay. The MDC takes care of ordering medication, with the actual costs being covered by the individual’s private insurance policy or by Quebec’s medical insurance (the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec [RAMQ]).
Care and services are provided 24 hours a day by our interdisciplinary team of doctors, a social worker, nurses, auxiliary nurses, volunteer caregivers and support staff, who work together to improve patients’ comfort and quality of life. The team also includes other support staff, be it for spiritual guidance or complementary care support, so that the full range of patients’ needs are appropriately met. All the care and services provided respect the palliative care home’s values and philosophy.
At La Maison des Collines, family and friends are considered an important part of overall care. They are the significant individuals that people at end of life have chosen to have by their side. We welcome them warmly and include their needs regarding losing a loved one within the care plan. These needs are then addressed by the interdisciplinary team.
Our care and services are designed to respect the privacy of family and friends. Family and friends may personalize their loved one’s room and sleep there if desired. They are supported and encouraged to participate in providing care and helping their loved-one based on what is possible for them and the wishes of their loved one.
Service areas are made available to family and friends so they can participate in daily life and mark any important events that fall during their stay.
Following the loved one’s passing, family and friends benefit from a counselling service and, if needed, are referred to more specialized services.
Qualified staff take care of all the needs of patients at La Maison des Collines and their family. Interdisciplinary meetings are held regularly to ensure the quality of the care and services provided, and to find solutions to any issues that may arise.
A team of doctors specialized in palliative care is onsite daily and a 24-hour on-call service provides for continuity of care.
Nursing staff provide attentive care 24 hours a day.
A social worker is available to provide personalized support to patients and family members who require it.
A team of volunteers contributes to a variety of activities at the MDC: at reception, in the kitchen, as well as doing maintenance (interior and exterior) and secretarial tasks, and helping nurses provide care.
A spiritual adviser is available on request.
Providing customized aid through the healing touch, the massage service aims to treat and alleviate pain so that patients benefit from a feeling of well-being, comfort and relaxation. Massages can be given to patients in their bed or on a massage table.
