24 marathons in eight weeks!
“Did you fall on your head? Do you have a concussion?”, says my wife. “No, why?”, I ask her. “Have you thought about it: running the equivalent of 24 marathons (or almost) is insane!”, she replies. “Maybe, but the causes are so worth it,” I said confidently.
After all, I’ve already run in Ottawa, Toronto and Orlando, more than once. I have 18 race medals to my credit. That’s quite a feat.
That’s why from Monday March 22 to Sunday May 16, eight weeks, I will be running 1000 kms, which is a 42 km marathon every two days, to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society and La Maison des Collines, two causes that are very close to my heart.
I am 63 years old and in 2019 I had cancer. Thanks to the treatments I received, I have beaten this disease that affects one in three people in Quebec. The Canadian Cancer Society helps patients and their families and invests in research on this disease.
La Maison des Collines provides a home for patients at the end of life, offering them a humane environment where the patient and their family are surrounded by a caring team that makes the last moments of life a little less painful. This is a nonprofit organization.
We all have friends or family who have cancer (or are in remission) or loved ones who would like to live their last moments of life in a humane environment, attentive to their needs.
But this is only possible if we support them financially. That is why I am appealing to your generosity and invite you to support me in my race by sending your donations to one of the mentioned causes. Your donations are tax deductible.
My goal is to raise $1000 for each of these causes that I have run for in the past.
After explaining all this, my wife asks me: “Aren’t you a little old to be running so much, in such a short time? And I answer her: “Don’t worry, honey, I’m up for it. Let’s go!”
